Scholarship
- Recent Winners

Thanks to a generation contribution from chapter member Cheryl Stearns, the Kitty Hawk Chapter awarded $10,000 in scholarships in 2008.

Three previous recipients of the Kitty
Hawk Scholarship are Brook Heyel,
Cheri Longobardo, and Krystle Tew.
 Brook
faced numerous obstacles in her quest
to become a licensed pilot. Working
full-time, attending night school,
dealing with financial problems, and changing flight instructors
– all conspired to keep her
grounded. But Brook persevered and,
with the help of her $1000 scholarship,
became a Private Pilot on December
9, 2006!
 Cheri
used her scholarship to obtain her
Airline Transport Pilot (Airplane
Single-Engine Seaplane) license in
order to fly in Indonesia for Samaritan’s
Purse, a non-profit humanitarian relief
agency. Prior to this flying assignment,
Cheri flew for Air Serv International
as a bush pilot in Democratic Republic
of the Congo, carrying humanitarian
aid workers and their supplies into
remote areas of the war-torn nation.
 Krystle
used her $1000 scholarship to earn
her Commercial Pilot (Single-Engine
Airplane) license. She then followed
that by getting her Commercial Pilots
(Multi-Engine) license. A full-time
student at UNC-Chapel Hill, Krystle
is majoring in Exercise and Sport
Science. After graduation, she plans
to get her flight instructor’s
license and work towards landing a
job as an airline pilot.
